Rethinking the Paywall
Let’s face it, the market is not used to paying for apps. We’ll talk about the possibilities of paywalls, and how to build an app worth buying in the first place.
The Consequences of Low Code Quality
Code quality determines how smoothly your app runs, how far it can go, and how good that process feels.
Your MVP & the Founder’s Flaw
Beware the Founder’s Flaw: where every detail seems all-important, skewing your sense of priority and proportion. To stay on track, keep these thoughts in mind.
Don’t look down.
2022 was a rough year following a few rough years. COVID happened, my died passed unexpectedly while I was six month’s pregnant, and Russia invaded Ukraine, where WLCM’s team was based. A lot of things shifted, chief among them my worldview, and not for the better. I started getting scared.
"It Didn't Go Well"
My five-year-old son is at summer camp on the beach. On the first week, the kids took swim tests to determine if they needed to wear a swim vest in the water. My son came out on the side of... swim vest. The next week, he asked the counselors if he could try again.
Clean Architecture: The Secret to Cutting Costs and Scaling Smart
When it comes to the code under the surface of your app, simplicity scales! Clean architecture structures the components of your app in a way that wastes fewer resources, simplifies maintenance, and costs less.
Using AI to Ensure High Code Quality
Code quality is the unsung hero of a functional, scalable, cost-efficient app. Can AI help produce higher-quality code? Like almost everything AI, the answer is Yes*.
WLCM Featured on the front page of Inc.com
After Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, Lindsey Witmer Collins knew she had to act fast: All but two of her employees lived in the country, the majority working from an office in the western city of Lviv. A few weeks later, many of WLCM's employees got to work again, relishing a sense of normalcy, she told Inc. in March 2022. But it wasn't business as usual, in any sense. Here, she shares what happened in the months that followed.
WLCM Named to Inc.’s 2022 Best in Business List
3rd annual list recognizes 241 private companies putting purpose ahead of profit. WLCM has been named to the Inc. 2022 Best in Business list in the Software Development category. Inc.’s Best in Business Awards honor companies that have made an extraordinary impact in their fields and on society
We're thinking about growth differently
WLCM was named #50 on the Fast 100, the SF Business Times' list of the fastest growing private companies in SF. The timing of these awards (this and Inc.'s equivalent list, to which we were named in March of this year) is interesting for us, because it's happening as virtually our entire team becomes refugees.
WLCM A Most Reviewed Global Software Provider
WLCM is more than a dev shop. We're long-term creative, strategic, and technical product partners. We provided software strategy, experience design, and development to venture-backed startups and established companies that need the highest-quality execution and true partnership. Today, we got word that we are one of the most reviewed global application management firms on The Manifest.

Brella is reimagining childcare in every dimension: from its gorgeous physical spaces to its fully-flexible booking process. Amy and pumpspotting were featured in Google’s #WeArePlay campaign, a book and website that features the stories and founders behind best-in-class mobile apps on the Google Play platform.
Our Story in Inc. Magazine
For more than 10 years, the San Francisco-headquartered app development company WLCM (pronounced "Welcome") has grown at a rapid clip by providing end-to-end development and design for startups. Then, business came to a sudden halt. On February 24, Russian forces invaded Ukraine, which put all but two of WLCM's 24 employees in peril.
You made this possible
I have been sending a series of emails to those who supported the campaign, to tell them what they’ve made possible. Because some people miss these updates, and also because each story of generosity is proof that we can make a difference in a world that feels largely outside of our control, I am sharing them here, too. This page will be updated ongoing.
WLCM No.55 on the Inc. Regionals Pacific list of the fastest-growing private companies in America

The Campaign for Ukrainian Families
On Feb 24th, after a sleepless night following Russia’s invasion into Ukraine, I shakily and quickly created a campaign to raise funds to support this team. Below is the content of that campaign and the updates I posted there.
Brella's Software Re-Launch & Expansion
WLCM is a team of parents — in fact, four of us had babies in the past year — so we know well the challenge of finding high-quality, flexible and reliable child care. Mission-alignment and the ease of working with the Brella team make this long-term partnership a joy for everyone.
The spirit of the word
Last month, the WLCM team was all together in Lviv, Ukraine. Among other activities, we went to the Craft Beer and Vinyl Festival. I tried not to think too much about how much my dad would have loved that festival, and apparently my team could read my mind, because Lilia and Sergey presented me with a beer there I knew...
Shift Meditations: Minimal Design for Maximum Transformation
At WLCM we are committed to creating work we’re proud of, every time, and that means making discerning choices about the projects we choose to take on. When it came to working with Lacy Young for her Shift Meditations app for iPhone and Android, it was a resounding and easy yes.
