Bringing web to mobile with Orgain

It’s a downright pleasure to work with Keith Hine and Brian Meares at Orgain Healthcare.

Keith and Brian came to us with a desire to bring their web experience for Orgain Healthcare Ambassadors to mobile. They wanted to create a secure and easy way for Ambassadors - healthcare providers who recommend Orgain products to patients and clients - to easily order samples for their clients and practice, and to access all of the other informative content Orgain creates to support these providers in their work.

Orgain products are helpful for anyone looking for an easy and delicious way to get high-quality nutrition and protein into their diets, but they’re also an important assist for people in their most vulnerable health moments, including cancer patients and others who are working to re-build crucial vitality and strength. Orgain supports these individuals not only by creating high-quality products, but also through the many resources they create for patient providers to increase their nutrition knowledge and quality of care. Making these products and resources more easily accessible to Orgain Ambassadors was a meaningful goal we could get behind.

The app is built for Ambassadors, but it also makes publicly available a number of valuable features, including access to streaming continuing education webinars, accessible both live and on-demand; resources including their science-based briefs, recipes written by health professionals, and document downloads like their Sports Dietitian Reference one-pager and Smoothie Cheat Sheet; a full, searchable library of their products with images, nutrition information, and highlights; and a store-finder.

The app allows users to log in as an Ambassador using facial recognition, as well as the ability to become an Ambassador. We integrated with Orgain’s existing CRM and email systems to make the application and approval process accessible on mobile. Technically, this was a front-end React Native project for deployment to iOS and Android devices. In terms of the app’s backend system, we didn’t want to re-create anything that already existed for the sake of resource efficiency and long-term ease of maintenance on Orgain’s side. So rather than build a database and server environment and a custom admin system for content management, which is typical of our projects, we instead worked with their existing web development team to define and implement APIs that spoke to their website’s Wordpress CMS, as well as their Magento, Salesforce, and Shopify workflows. As a result, the mobile app speaks to, and seamlessly integrates with, all of their existing systems, so that it automatically updates and is aligned with whatever content or process work that they create or update elsewhere.

I was excited to work with Orgain because I loved their story, and I knew they were a values-driven company as a result of their work with pumpspotting, another one of our clients. They made sure pumpspotting’s founder, Amy, had free Orgain on the Breast Express for all of the breastfeeding moms and their toddlers. When a family member became terminally ill during this project, and I told Keith and Brian that I would be offline for a few weeks as a result, they asked for my family’s address and sent us boxes of Orgain shakes. These are good people.

We look forward to continuing to work with Keith and Brian, and we recommend their products and this company. See more product screenshots in our portfolio, and check them out at healthcare.orgain.com. Thumbs up!
