MilkMate
Create a simple system for tracking kits usage at MilkMate kiosks across the country with an Admin panel for managing and tracking locations and inventory
CHALLENGE
SOLUTION
An easy scan of a QR code registers kit usage. A web-based admin system gives full visibility into inventory and calculates and displays system KPIs
RESULTS
The on-time, on-budget launch of an app moms love using and a dashboard that gives MilkMate all the information they need to run and grow their business
A revolutionary breast pumping solution for the workplace
MilkMate provides out-of-the-box workplace lactation rooms that increase ease and efficiency for working moms. In addition to a creating a comfortable lactation space, MilkMate kiosks provide a built-in, high-performing breast pump and pre-assembled, recyclable single-use pump parts. As a result, moms don’t need to haul a pump or assemble or clean pump parts (hallelujah!).
As someone who pumped every 2-3 hours for 30-45 minutes every day of my working life for 3 years, I understood immediately the value of MilkMate’s solution. I was intimately familiar with the many minor and major inconveniences of hauling and cleaning a pump and pump parts and safely storing expressed milk — in addition to actually pumping, keeping my milk supply high, and managing working life with a newborn.
MilkMate needed software to track and manage their parts inventory at all of their kiosks in order to be sure that no mom would show up to an empty cabinet. This was a challenge I was eager to help them meet, and over the next year, we had fun designing building and ultimately launching their apps.

REACT NATIVE
The goal of the MilkMate mobile app is to track pump part (kit) inventory at kiosks, and the goal of the admin system is to facilitate the management of that inventory.
We workshopped a number of angles for tracking the kits and landed on a QR code that moms scan to track kits upon use. We designed a companion mobile app that is as simple as possible with little to no navigation.
To that we added a few layers of creative messaging, illustrations and animations that have a fun personality and add a dimension of delight to a process that can be painful at worse, inconvenient at best.
The admin panel gives the MilkMate team the ability to bring new kiosks online and off and generates unique QR codes. It gives them visibility into real-time traffic and inventory and calculates return-on-investment for employers.
