From Vision to Reality
Challenge
Loch Kelly, a leading mindfulness teacher, envisioned a mobile app that gave his students and others easy access to his teachings and meditations, as well as a desktop-based admin portal to manage content and monitor usage for data-driven improvements ongoing.
Solution
With smart UX, we re-designed and re-built an existing, non-functioning admin portal; re-built the backend code for optimal performance and extensibility; and refactored the React Native mobile app to make it launch-ready.
Results
A non-functioning software system that a previous team had spent nine months building was re-designed and then re-built by WLCM in three months. With performance and stability the client could rely on, they were able to finally launch with confidence.

EMI’s previous team spent nine months building unworkable software. WLCM got it re-built in three.
Loch Kelly’s team at the Effortless Mindfulness Institute (EMI) came to WLCM with a mobile app and online admin tool that they believed was just about ready for launch. However, because of ongoing glitches and some parts plain not working, they were having a hard time getting it across the finish line.
EMI was looking for a partner who could make the product finally work, get it live, and help them build and maintain from there.
After an initial conversation, WLCM began a code review. We returned to EMI a detailed report of the current state of the code and had a sobering conversation about what could be done to salvage the work and get them live.
First, the Admin panel needed to be re-designed for better usability and functionality, so David, Sean and I co-worked on a new vision for a solution that would actually meet their needs. WLCM’s design team turned around a new version of the app designs, and we got to work.
The admin panel and backend needed to be fully re-built, while we tried to minimally refactor the React Native mobile app code to be workable. We also suggested and implemented some small but impactful design changes to the mobile app — fonts and colors, specifically. Eventually we would like to re-consider the mobile app’s UX/UI and re-build it cleanly, but we’ll see what’s practical!
We love working with Loch Kelly and his team. It continues to be a fun and fruitful partnership.
